Hoedspruit is one of South Africa’s top wildlife destinations and a key access point to the Greater Kruger National Park. Known fondly by locals as “Hoedies” or “The Hoed,” this fast-growing town is loved for its wildlife, game reserves, and outdoor experiences. It’s a year-round destination with seasonal changes that bring new wildlife sightings and bird activity.
Whether you're here for self-drive adventures or guided game drives, you're just minutes from two Kruger National Park gates. Let us know if you’d like help arranging a guided safari experience.
Your cottage is located inside the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, a secure, private estate on the edge of town. The 700-hectare estate features a mix of homes and untouched bushveld filled with wildlife like warthogs, impala, zebra, giraffe, and even the occasional leopard or wild dog.
The estate is home to many full-time residents who live peacefully among the animals. Please drive slowly (max 30 km/h) and never feed the wildlife. This keeps both animals and people safe.
Hoedspruit has a subtropical climate with hot summers (28°C to 40°C) and spectacular late-afternoon thunderstorms. Winters are dry and mild, with clear skies, cool evenings (around 5°C), and daytime highs of 28°C - 30°C. A light jacket or raincoat is always handy.
The lounge features a smart TV with a Mi Box running Android TV. You can access Netflix and other streaming apps using your personal login.
To turn on the TV, use the button under the bottom right corner of the screen. The Mi Box operates with its remote control.
The house offers free Wi-Fi. All major mobile networks have signal in the area.
Do not plug in any high-wattage appliances (like hairdryers) here, this will damage the inverter.
Hoedspruit is packed with great restaurants, coffee shops, and local craft spots. We encourage visitors to support local farms, artists, and food vendors. Here are a few local favourites:
Hoedspruit is a low-risk malaria area, but it’s still a good idea to take precautions. Mosquito spray (such as Peaceful Sleep or Tabard) and long sleeves are recommended, especially in the evenings or after sunset.
